Chat with Your Docs: A Guide to Running Local AI on Your Laptop

As developers and operators, we are constantly navigating massive amounts of documentation to keep our systems running. At the same time, we know that AI is changing our industry, and learning how to leverage it is essential for future-proofing our careers. But how do you get started with Generative AI safely, without sending sensitive data to the cloud or needing a PhD in data science?

In this session, we will demystify local AI by demonstrating how you can turn your work laptop into a private AI powerhouse using open source tools.

We will explore Podman Desktop AI Lab, a user-friendly tool that lowers the barrier to entry for AI. You will see a live demonstration of how to deploy a "Chat with Your Docs" application directly from the built-in recipe catalog—no complex coding required. We will walk through the practical steps of ingesting offline Red Hat documentation into a local vector database, allowing you to ask questions and get instant, context-aware answers using Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG).
