The Migration Factory: Scaling vSphere to OpenShift Virtualization with MTV and Ansible

 

Session Description

 

As organizations look to modernize their infrastructure and move away from legacy hypervisor lock-in, the challenge isn't just moving one VM—it’s moving hundreds or thousands with minimal downtime and zero manual error. Simply "lifting and shifting" is no longer enough; success at scale requires a repeatable, automated pipeline.

 

In this session, we dive deep into the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV) and demonstrate how to supercharge your evacuation from vSphere using Ansible. We will move beyond the basics of the MTV web console to explore how to build a "Migration Factory." You’ll learn how to leverage Ansible to automate the creation of migration plans, validate source environments, and trigger mass migrations across multiple provider mappings.

 

We will also discuss how to handle the "Day 1" hurdles of mass migration, including mapping vSphere networks to OpenShift Multus and ensuring storage persistence at scale.
