The inner loop—the iterative process of coding, building, and testing—is where developers create business value. Yet, developers often spend more time on tedious tasks like waiting for environments, resolving environment drift, or manual configuration than on writing features. Operations teams on the other have difficulty protecting intellectual property (source code), standardizing developer tools, and keeping all environments compliant and resource-efficient.

With AI assistants becoming a standard requirement for engineering teams, these challenges are only being magnified. This is where Red Hat OpenShift Dev Spaces comes in to help.

Morgan Stanley has been on a multi-year journey to provide a firm-wide Kubernetes platform meeting rigid security and resiliency requirements. This initiative culminated in the creation of the Morgan Stanley Kubernetes Service (MKS), a modern application platform that fosters developer innovation while effectively managing regulatory and operational risks.

 

From its inception, the MKS architecture was designed for scalability by employing the concept of OpenShift on OpenShift using OpenShift Virtualization. Morgan Stanley collaborated with Red Hat to create an end-to-end automated deployment solution for MKS. This highly resilient architecture leveraged OpenShift Virtualization along with a strict GitOps approach utilizing Ansible Automation Platform (AAP) and Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (RHACM), has allowed MKS to expand rapidly at Morgan Stanley.

 

GitOps capabilities empower Morgan Stanley to deploy and manage hundreds of clusters without needing an army of engineers. With this solid base, Morgan Stanley continues down the path of self service for cluster lifecycle management

The presentation will include a practical example that walks through a complete workflow—from building and managing container images with Podman Desktop's intuitive interface, to connecting to OpenShift clusters, pushing images to the internal registry, and deploying applications that integrate with large language models. 2:45 - 3:30 PM No GPU Left Behind: Maximizing Resource

Achieving both high resource utilization and operational flexibility is a critical challenge in cluster environments. This challenge is magnified by the surge of AI workloads, where expensive, specialized resources like GPUs are needed for a growing mix of online inference services, offline training, and traditional batch computing (such as grid and HPC). The goal for most organizations is to ensure these critical resources are fully utilized while remaining adaptable to diverse workload requirements.

While OpenShift has long been a leader in orchestrating service workloads, it is rapidly becoming the platform of choice for batch computing. Recent platform enhancements, specifically around queueing and workload-aware scheduling, have significantly reduced the friction in migrating traditional batch and grid workloads into a containerized ecosystem. This migration provides the full benefits of containerization and delivers a crucial operational speed-up by maximizing resource utilization across the organization.

This talk will explore how to effectively leverage OpenShift to consolidate these diverse use cases—from AI/ML to HPC—onto a single platform. We will detail deployment patterns and strategies for ensuring optimal utilization of expensive resources, offering a clear path to modernizing your cluster environment.

1:15 - 3:30 PM Developer Track

For the Developer Track, you will participate in the Red Hat OpenShift Space Adventure where you’ll be engaged in a 2.5 hour, hands-on, gamified competition and put your skills to the test in a problem-solving environment to prevent a space station disaster. You’ll put your expertise to the ultimate test to save your space crew and compete to win.

Your adventure includes:

  • Engaging in a fun, high-stakes environment designed to challenge your OpenShift knowledge and to save the space station.
  • Learning practical, new skills as you navigate complex scenarios 
  • Competing against your peers for bragging rights and a chance to win prizes

Who should compete?

Developers, Operators or Architects with some OpenShift experience

Minimum skill sets:

  • Some experience with Red Hat OpenShift
  • Basic understanding of containers
  • Basic programming skills (Java, Python)
  • Basic understanding of Git (push code to a repository)
1:15 - 3:30 PM Operations Track

For the Operations Track, you will participate in the Sovereign Cloud workshop  with a focus on cloud agility while maintaining strict data residency, operational autonomy, and regulatory compliance across on-premises, edge, and multi-cloud environments. This hands-on lab demonstrates how to create and manage geographically distributed OpenShift clusters with built-in policy enforcement, zero-trust security, and intelligent workload placement to ensure sovereignty without sacrificing innovation or AI acceleration.

Participants will gain practical experience in deploying applications and AI workloads in a compliant, repeatable manner while preserving full control over data and operations.
