A Lightwell at the end of the Vulnerability Tunnel
It was inevitable: The excitement generative Artificial Intelligence created has given way to the realization that good actors aren’t the only ones putting it to work. When Anthropic told the world about Mythos, they poured fuel on the fire that is the race to find and remediate vulnerabilities from the lowest levels of infrastructure to the most far flung user facing applications. Though many companies, including Anthropic, have done great work in vulnerability discovery via initiatives like Project Glasswing, so far less attention has been given to remediating those found problems. Enter Lightwell.
Lightwell is a joint initiative between Red Hat and IBM focused on securing the open source software supply chain. It extends Red Hat’s proven model of enterprise open source maintenance by providing access to security remediations and mitigations far beyond our traditional product footprint.
But wait, there’s more! Lightwell is just one piece of Red Hat's broader trusted software supply chain story. We'll also look at how Red Hat hardens container images from the ground up — from curated, vulnerability-scanned base images to trusted libraries rebuilt from source — and how these practices align with SLSA (Supply-chain Levels for Software Artifacts) to give you verifiable provenance guarantees across your build pipeline. We'll close with a live demo of Red Hat Advanced Development Security (RHADS) to show what this looks like in practice.
Join the September installment of our Raleigh Red Hat User Group meetup to learn more about how Red Hat, together with IBM, is taking up the fight to remediate open source application libraries for our customers and for the upstream communities we all rely on.
