NZ Hackathon: Stop Fixing. Start Self-Healing

Event Overview:

 

This hackathon explores what modern platform management looks like when detection and response are handled together rather than passed between teams. Bringing OpenShift platform engineers alongside automation and SRE practitioners, the session focuses on the operational problems that neither group can solve well on their own.

Participants will work in mixed teams on real remediation scenarios, using a live environment spanning OpenShift, Ansible Automation Platform, Advanced Cluster Security and Red Hat AI. Teams select a challenge, work through their own approach, and present a working result at the end of the morning. The hackathon is designed to help teams build shared automation patterns, understand where self-healing operations are practical today, and strengthen the working relationship between platform and automation functions.

 

Key learning points:

 
  • Understand how Event-Driven Ansible turns platform and security events into automated action.
  • Gain practical experience building rulebooks, Decision Environments, and event sources against a live OpenShift cluster.
  • Explore how Advanced Cluster Security detections can drive automated containment rather than another ticket.
  • Learn where AI-assisted analysis genuinely adds value in an incident workflow, and where deterministic automation remains the safer choice.
  • Understand how automated guardrails can hold platform standards consistently without slowing delivery teams down.
  • See how remediation actions can be made auditable and repeatable, which matters when explaining automated change to risk and audit stakeholders.
  • Build a working view of where the boundary sits between platform and automation responsibilities in your own operating model.
