Introduction to OpenShift Workshop Canberra

Wednesday, 19 Tuesday 2026 | 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM

Red Hat Office | Canberra ACT | Australia

OVERVIEW

Master the fundamentals of deploying, scaling, and managing cloud-native applications on Red Hat OpenShift in an interactive, lab-driven session. This workshop is built around a simple principle: the fastest way to understand enterprise container platforms is by working directly inside them. Rather than walking through theoretical concepts on slides, you will spend your time in a dedicated environment, actively exploring how modern platforms orchestrate, connect, and support application workloads.

Whether you are new to Kubernetes or looking to streamline your application deployment workflows, this hands-on workshop takes you from foundational concepts to automated production deployments. The session bridges the gap between high-level architectural ideas and day-to-day developer practice. You will gain a clear mental model of how developer tools, platform automation, and cloud-native design come together to simplify how software gets delivered and maintained.

By stepping into an active environment, you will see firsthand how modern application management shifts focus away from underlying infrastructure and toward shipping software with speed, stability, and control. You will leave with a solid, intuitive understanding of cloud-native development practices and the confidence to navigate container platforms in your own projects.

Key learning points:

  • An introduction to foundational concepts of containerisation and Kubernetes: Understand what containers are, how images work, and why they provide predictable application environments across development and production.
  • Kubernetes Core Concepts: Learn how Kubernetes orchestrates containers, managing pods, services, deployments, and cluster resources.
  • Navigating OpenShift: Get comfortable managing applications using both the Web Console and CLI, and discover how OpenShift builds upon enterprise Kubernetes to provide enhanced developer tooling, security, and automated workflows.
  • Deploying & Scaling Apps: Learn to deploy workloads from source code or images, handle traffic spikes, and expose services to external users.
  • Database & CI/CD Integration: Connect applications to managed databases and set up webhooks for automated builds.
  • Monitoring & Collaboration: Inspect real-time logs, troubleshoot running containers, and grant project access to team members.

Who should attend:

  • Platform Engineers
  • DevOps Engineers
  • Cloud and System Engineers
  • Software Engineers involved in CI/CD and containerised delivery
  • Architects responsible for application modernisation and delivery
